Children have rights set out in law and in the UN convention.

These include:

The right to be treated as a person in their  own right (not the property of their parents)child holding children's rights banner

The right to choose their own friends
The right to make up their own mind
The right to privacy
The right to be treated with dignity
The right not to be treated cruelly
