Head of Children's Services celebrates a year of ask Sid!

Dr Sonia Sharpe, Head of Children and Young People's Services at Sheffield City Council marked the start of a campaign to promote the ask Sid service by being the first person to receive a copy of a celebration brochure marking the service’s first birthday.

Dr Sharpe received the brochure from Charlotte Fairclough (11), a ask Sid logostudent at Mansell Primary School and Sharon Curtis, Manager of Ellesmere Children's Centre, who are both featured on the front of the brochure.

www.asksid.net is Sheffield's information website that is dedicated to providing comprehensive family-centred information and advice for children, parents, carers and professionals involved in providing services for families.

The ask Sid service is funded by Sheffield City Council and is managed by Sheffield Information Link (SIL). Since its launch over 10,000 unique visitors have accessed information on www.asksid.net in nearly 18,000 visits with over a quarter of a million pages being viewed by visitors.

The celebration brochure contains numerous case studies about real Sheffield people who have used ask Sid to enrich their lives and find key information on family issues.

Talking about ask Sid Charlotte said "It's really good because all you have to do is type in where you want to go, click search and it's at your fingertips. My mum also used it to find singing lessons for me - you can find anything you want really."

Speaking at the presentation, Dr Sharpe said:

"ask Sid is a fantastic resource and service for the families, young people and professionals of Sheffield that I have actively encouraged people to use in my private and professional lives.

"What I really like about ask Sid is the way it positively engages with young people and families. I would encourage every child, family, professional and service manager to make full use of ask Sid."

SIL is making a series of presentations to agencies and organisations involved in family-centred services over the coming months including social services, voluntary & community organisations, Early Years and the Police. Anyone wanting more information about ask Sid should call SIL on 0114 275 6699 or visit www.asksid.net.
